Hyderabad’s civic infrastructure to get major boost

The civic infrastructure and the road connectivity in Hyderabad city is expected to get a major boost this week with the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari laying the foundation stone for some major works including a flyover and widening of important roads.

The total cost of Rs 1,750 crore will be borne by the Centre while the State Government will spend Rs 350 crore to acquire the required land. Gadkari will lay the foundation stone on Saturday for a flyover on congested Amberpet-Ramanthapur road. It was estimated to cost Rs 230 crore. A 8 kms long elevated corridor will also be built at Uppal at a cost of Rs 850 crore while widening of the road will be taken up on Hyderabad-Narsapur-Medak route at a cost of Rs 400 crore.

To further improve the connectivity between the city and the Shamshabad international airport and increase the speed of the traffic, the work will start to widen the road between Aramghar and Shamshabad.

Presently the airport bound traffic flows smoothly over the 11 kms long expressway from Mehdipatnam to Aramghar but after that it gets stuck in the slow moving traffic on Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway.

Meanwhile Hyderabad crossed yet another important milestone with the completion of the entire 158 kms long Outer Ring Road around the city. The last stretch of the project was thrown open to the general public on Tuesday with the completion of 1.10 kms long Medchal Interchange on the National Highway 44.

The interchange includes three major structures, 18 minor structures and 9.8 kms long road stretch. It was completed at a cost of Rs 125 crore. With this the traffic coming from Nagpur direction on National Highway will be able to bypass the city traffic and take the outer ring road to travel towards Vijaywada, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

While the other stretches of the ORR were completed earlier over a period of last 9 years, the Medchal-Patanchervu stretch took longer time because of the legal dispute over the land acquisition.
