IMD warns of sweltering heat in interior parts of State

The day temperature in the city will be around 37 degrees Celsius till Friday and, in the interior parts of the State, it will hover around 40-42 degrees Celsius on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department.

With the peak summer season just two days away, several interior places have already started experiencing searing heat for the past few days.

On Wednesday, seven weather stations had recorded maximum temperature that crossed 37.7 degrees Celsius across the State, including Palayamkottai, Madurai and Salem.

Tiruchi sizzled at 41.3 degrees Celsius followed by Vellore and Tiruttani that experienced 40.5 and 40.4 degrees Celsius.

The weather stations in Meenambakkam and Nungambakkam recorded slightly lesser temperature than the previous day. Meenambakkam recorded 38.2 degrees Celsius, which is one degree lower than Tuesday’s temperature.

Intense heat during day time brought some showers in Villupuram, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Dharmapuri districts on Wednesday.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature would be around 40-42 degrees Celsius, in Vellore, Tiruchi, Karur, Madurai and Perambalur on Thursday.
