Mamata preaches communal politics in Bengal: BJP leader

Launching a blistering attack on Mamata Banerjee, Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday said the Chief Minister’s basic politics thrived on minority communalism, violence and false promises.

Speaking to a Bengali television channel, Ghosh, whose party has arguably displaced the Left Front to grab the second place the State politics, said it is not the BJP but Banerjee who preached communal politics in Bengal.

“Mamata Banerjee went on record in a public meeting saying it was her duty to look after the interests of the Muslims since they comprised 31 percent of the State’s vote share. Is it not communal politics? Does it not show that unlike the BJP she only considers Muslims as voters and not human beings?” the BJP leader who has of late been faulted by the Trinamool Congress for using provocative and violent words said.

When asked as to why he being a State party president held rallies with flashing swords and maces and uttered violent words — like “we will shorten them by six inches from above” or “we will chase them (Trinamool Congress goons) to the funeral grounds” — the senior saffron leader wondered whether the Muslims did not take out armed processions during Muharram.

“If armed processions can take place during Muharram why can’t the same rule apply during our festivals. We are not harming anyone,” he said adding the harsh words he has been using against the Trinamool Congress goons was because “this is the only way we can resist their rampant violence in the State.” He insisted, “the only way to fight against arms is to do so with arms. We have seen in Mahabharat how violence has to be resisted by violence only. This is the only way to bring about a Parivartan in Bengal. If we do not resist then there will be no change in Bengal. The people of this State are eagerly waiting for a change. They just want a chance to do so.”

There was no democracy in Bengal he said adding, “all democratic institutions have been usurped by the Trinamool Congress goons. They cannot even hold panchayat elections. They are afraid of defeat so they have been stopping us from filing the nominations.

Despite being repeatedly attacked by their goons we have filed nominations in 38,000 out of 58,000 seats. Let the people vote peacefully and then see how people act.”

Attacking the Chief Minister for peddling random lies apart from communalism, he said “Mamata Banerjee is one person who thrives on false promises and declarations. She often talks of having created 90 lakh jobs but I challenge her to produce records of such services having been created. I am sure she will fail to do so. She only peddles false promises and makes unreal statements.”
