BJD’s Mahanadi Abhiyan from May 16

The BJD would kick-start its second-phase movement called the Mahanadi Suraksha Abhiyan from May 16 for protection of Mahanadi water in the interest of people of the State.

Addressing a Press meet here on Wednesday, senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya said Chief Minister and party president Naveen Patnaik would launch the rally in Bargarh and Jharsuguda districts on May 16 at 10 am.

The rally involving students, youths, farmers, fishermen, women, intellectuals and police and social organisation members, would be taken out on both the side of the river. The rally would cover blocks and urban areas under 45 Assembly constituencies spread across 15 districts along the Mahanadi.

Earlier, the party supremo had made an announcement in the party leaders’ (of 15 districts), meeting held here on April 22, in this regard. Accordingly, the Abhiyan has been planned, said Acharya.

Public rallies, street plays and other cultural events will be organised during rally to sensitise people about the monopolistic nature of the Union Government and the Chhattisgarh Government, said Acharya. Among others, party vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra, general secretary Sanjay Kumar Dasburma and Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and secretary Bijay Nayak were present.
