Coast Guard rescues fishermen stuck at sea

They were stranded 70 nautical miles southwest of New Mangalore for a week

The Indian Coast Guard rescued 10 fishermen who were stranded at sea for the past one week due to a major technical fault in the fishing boat Al-Ameen. The vessel had lost propulsion and anchorage 70 nautical miles southwest of New Mangalore.

The Fisheries Department officials in Kasaragod had on April 30, Monday, requested the Coast Guard to help in the search for Al-Ameen. After the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Amartya got orders for search and render assistance, it located the stranded boat in the early hours of Tuesday.

Meanwhile, another fishing vessel, Dharvesh-II, arranged by the Fisheries Department, reached the spot in the evening and took the boat under tow and headed for Kasaragod.

ICGS Amartya facilitated the safe towing of Al-Ameen up to the Nileswaram harbour, where they reached around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, and handed over the boat to the Fisheries Department.
