Rachel Riley Twitter: Countdown star challenges The Chase's Mark Labbett in epic face-off
RACHEL RILEY delighted her Twitter following when the Countdown favourite challenged The Chase star Mark Labbett to a battle of wits earlier today, not long after walking away from The Chase with the largest ever prize payout.
The 32-year-old maths whizz, who found fame on the Channel 4 gameshow when she took over from Carol Vorderman in 2009, recently announced her partnership with new quiz app FleetWit, which pits users against each other to compete for cash prizes.
Trivia fan Rachel Riley is even on the app herself, meaning fans can play against her and test their knowledge against the famous brainbox.
After she announced the news on Twitter, inviting her 564,000 followers to challenge her, the Countdown presenter got more than she bargained for when quizzer Mark, 52, decided to try his luck.
“Am I allowed to play?” he asked.
Seeming unfazed by going up against the former Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Mastermind contestant, she replied enthusiastically: “Absolutely!
“@MarkLabbett you could make a fortune off of me,” she added.
The Chase star was quick to arrange the battle of brains, saying: “Signed up and ready to play.
“7pm, let the quizzing version of High Noon commence! #brainybeast,” he quipped.
Clearly keen to go up against The Beast, Rachel retweeted his message, telling her fans: “The big guns are in!!”
Shortly afterwards, Mark announced the result of their first clash, telling his 91,000 followers: “Took part in @RachelRileyRR trivia challenge on @FleetWitHQ. She came 40th, I came 42nd… curses, foiled again!”
The pub quiz app allows players to select their own game type and category before testing their knowledge of everything from movies to literature and food to music.

Rachel explained her winnings on the app will be donated to The Angus Lawson Memorial Trust charity.
Earlier this evening, she tweeted a picture of herself with a burger in one hand and her phone in the other, saying: “I won my first $5 with @fleetwithq!
“Really excited about this new partnership, any money I win on this quiz app goes to my favourite charity @wwwalmtorg.
“The more challenges the better,” she added.
The former Strictly Come Dancing star and Mark’s face-off came after it was revealed Rachel Riley and Kirsty Gallagher won The Chase’s largest ever prize.

The record-breaking victory occurred with they joined a line-up of celebs taking on one of the five Chasers in a bid to win money for Soccer Aid, which raises funds for Unicef UK.
The Sun reported the pair took home the largest prize in the history of the ITV gameshow: a staggering £160,000 for their charity.
A source said: “Everybody was amazed with their efforts.
“Most of the time celebs make a bit of a fool of themselves trying to take on the likes of Anne Hegarty and co.
“But Kirsty and Rachel absolutely destroyed the Chaser and went home with a massive pot of cash for a great cause.”
