Five bonded labourers rescued from Latur

A team of district administration officials who had gone to Latur in Maharashtra, rescued five bonded labourers of the district made hostage by a bore well company, officials informed.

The labourers reached with team on Tuesday night and the District Collector Shyam Dhawde handed them over to their respective families the other day.

According to information from Labour Officer a complaint was lodged by family members of the labourers to the District Collector about the matter. The Collector immediately formed a team of district administration under leadership of Nayab Tehsildar Krishnamurty Diwan and sent it to Latur.

The team met the Latur District Collector and Superintendent of Police, Latur and apprised them about the matter while handing over letter of Gariaband Collector. Necessary help was demanded from them and they acting upon the matter formed a local team.

The joint team of Gariaband and Latur approached village Murur in Latur, location of which was given by relatives of the affected. They rescued the bonded labourers from the bore-well vehicle there. The names of labourers rescued are Keshav Dhruv, Shankar Lohar, Kumar Dhruv, Tumesh Dhruv and Ghanshyam Lohar. All the labourers were from the village Kirwai of the Gariaband district.

One Rupesh Dhruv of Gariaband luring them of Rs 9,000 salary and free meal took them to Nagpur in Maharashtra.  From there they were taken to Latur and were handed over to Om Contractor’s Company of Bore-well Machine. The labourers were safely brought to Gariaband and were handed over to their respective families the other day.
