Goa Velha move into next round

CANDOLIM: Goa Velha SC advanced in the Lakanpal Novino Soccer Cup, organised by Candolim SC, with a 3-1 win over ABC Arambol at Dr Gustavo Monteiro grounds in Candolim on Wednesday. Goa Velha went into the breather leading by 2-0 margin. In the very 10th minute Omkar Satelkar getting hold of a pass from Chatur Naik scored with a neat placement, 1-0. Chatur Naik who was instrumental in the first goal scored with a solo effort, 2-0. On crossing over, Arambol tried to come back into the match as Kritikesh Gadekar scored from outside the penalty box, 2-1. However in the 65th minute Yogendra Thapa scored the insurance goal for Goa Velha, 3-1.

Models Panjim enter semis

CHINCHINIM: Models Panjim entered the semifinals of CRC Chinchinim’s Women Football Tournament, defeating Carmel Girls, Curtorim 2-0 in the quarterfinal played at at Chinchinim grounds on Wednesday. Model Panjim took the lead in the 10th minute through Sushmita Jadhav, who after receiving a nice assist from the middle ran down the right flank and dodged a couple of defenders before sending an elegant effort that gave no chance at all to the Carmel Girls keeper Samanta Fernandes. And eight minutes later, Clinta Fernandes scored the other goal for the winners. Models Panjim will meet Canacona Sports Academy in the semifinals, which will be played today.

Inacio double sends Nuvem into last 4

RAIA: Nuvem SC entered the semifinals of Arlem Trophy football tournament defeating Mandopa SC 2-1, at Raia grounds on Wednesday. Inacio Colaco scored both the goals for Nuvem SC in the second session. Ronaldo Pereira pulled a goal back for Mandopa SC in the last five minutes of the game.

Karishma stars in Ambelim Queens win

AMBELIM: Ambelim Queens won their second game defeating Euro Connexion 3-2 in the Sevens Women’s Football Festival, organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club, at Ambelim Sports Complex, Ambelim on Wednesday. Ambelim Queens tasted victory after Karishma Shirvoikar scored a hat-trick while Euro Connexion got their goals through Flavina Rodrigues and Macrenna Dias.

Sesa FA outdo St Savio

AMBELIM: Sesa FA registered a hard-fought 4-2 win over St Savio SC, Calangute in the match 4 of the Goa Sevens Premier League, organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club in association with Goa Football Association (GFA) at Ambelim Sports Complex, on Wednesday.

Cyrus Noronha scored a brace for the SESA side while Ryan Fernandes and Caitaino Rodrigues scored a goal each. Pedro Gonsalves scored both the goals for St Savio.

Nitish shocks GM Himanshu, IM Vijayalakshmi

PANAJI: FM Nitish Belurkar, who is representing Goa in the National Rapid and Blitz Chess championship 2018, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, began his campaign in style by defeating Grandmaster Himanshu Sharma (rating 2447) of Railways and International Master Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman (rating 2330) of Air India. Nitish will play International Master Rathnakaran K (rating 2394) of Railways in his next round. After three rounds, Nitish is on 3 points.

Ponda Veterans edge Candolim Veterans

TALEIGAO: Ponda Veterans registered a 1-0 victory over Candolim Veterans in the 6th All Goa Panjim Veterans Football Tournament at Taleigao ground. Gurudas Lotlikar of Ponda Veterans scored the goal. Shankar Palekar of Candolim Veterans was adjudged the man of the match.
