BUNNELL — The Flagler County Veterans Services office will be closed next week, May 7-11, so the office’s two employees can receive required annual training.

The training, which is conducted by the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, is required for re-certification as an accredited representative recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to assist veterans and their families with VA interactions, according to a media release from the county.

"Veterans who need assistance should try to make arrangements to meet with us this week, or when our offices reopen on May 14," Flagler Veterans Services officer David Lydon said Thursday.

Veterans Services representatives are trained to help veterans understand and apply for any VA benefits to which they may be entitled, including compensation, education, vocational rehabilitation and employment, home loans, life insurance, pension, health care, and burial costs.

Flagler's Veterans Services office, located on the first floor of the Government Services Building, 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Bldg 2, is open to all past, current and future members of the U.S. Armed Forces including those with disabilities, whether service connected or not. It is located at

"We recognize that it is inconvenient to have the office closed for a week, but this training is very important," County Administrator Craig Coffey said in the release. "It helps our staff provide quality service to our veterans."
