Comments irresponsible,says Stalin

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Wednesday described as irresponsible the statement by Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman that the Centre could not take any unilateral decision on the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

“The Centre has a duty to abide by the Supreme Court order [on the Cauvery issue]. A responsible Union Minister cannot say that the Centre has no role [in this], and her response is unacceptable,” he said while addressing mediapersons at the Anna Arivalayam. Mr. Stalin said that even if Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami was able to get an appointment with PM Narendra Modi, he would not have the courage to raise the CMB issue with the PM. “He might use the occasion to prostrate before the PM to save his government,” he said.

Mr. Stalin said he was under the impression that the CMB would come up for discussion during the CM’s visit to Delhi. “But the PM’s Office has clarified that there won’t be any such meeting,” he said.
