Trees now line the right of way on U.S. 127 Business Route near Mt. Pleasant.
The Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club provided more than 100 trees that were planted on April 28 by nearly 50 volunteers.
The Michigan Department of Transportation provided a permit for the planting, according to a news release.
“We want to help create a positive image for people coming in to visit to Mt. Pleasant,” said Rotary member Robert Wheeler.
Leading up to the planting, the club had selected and purchased all materials, staked and labeled the location for each tree, and dug the holes for all plants.
Rotary International encouraged each of its chapters to plant one tree throughout the year.
“We were encouraged to plant one tree but thought, ‘Why stop there?’ We just went over 100 instead,” Wheeler said.
A variety of trees were selected for the location, with many expected to flower in the spring and summer.
