The Washington Redskins have added 14 undrafted free agents to the roster as rookie minicamp approaches.
The organization brought in wide five receivers, three defensive backs, two offensive linemen, two running backs, one tight end and one linebacker. The team’s rookie minicamp begins May 11.
The group is highlighted by Virginia safety Quin Blanding, who was named first-team all-ACC the last two seasons and earned defensive rookie of the year honors in 2014. The 6-foot-2, 207-pounder was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and was named a third-team all-American by the Associated Press last season. He ranked No. 2 on the team with 137 tackles in 2017, tied for a team high in interceptions (four) and had 3 1/2 tackles for loss.
“[A] five-star standout who stepped right into the starting lineup and had an immediate impact on the games,” NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein wrote. “Blanding is a big safety who plays with good football intelligence and an unwavering commitment on each snap, but his lack of makeup speed and his coverage limitations may force him into a more limited role on the next level.”
Stony Brook offensive tackle Timon Parris (6-6, 312 pounds), Indiana wide receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr. (6-3, 220 pounds), Southern cornerback Danny Johnson (5-9, 181 pounds) and Iowa center Sean Welsh (6-3, 306 pounds) were all NFL Scouting Combine invitees who were not selected in the draft.
Grambling State running back Martez Carter (5-7, 193), Nebraska wide receiver De’Mornay Pierson-El (5-9, 190 pounds), N.C. State linebacker Jerod Fernandez (6-0 227), Colorado wide receiver Shay Fields (5-10, 185), Pittsburgh tight end Matt Flanagan (6-6, 260), San Diego State wide receiver Mikah Holder (6-0, 185), Alabama wide receiver Cam Sims (6-5, 214), TCU cornerback Ranthony Texada (5-10, 170) and West Virginia fullback Elijah Wellman (6-2, 241) have all signed with the Redskins.
