LUCKNOW: Hours after thunderstorm and rains left behind a trail of death and destruction in the state during intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, weather office on Thursday issued a warning, predicting possibility of more thunderstorms/gusty winds in many parts of the state till Saturday morning.
State MeT director JP Gupta said that thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are likely in many parts of the state, including east, west and terai regions of UP. More than 30 districts are likely to affected. They include Gorakhpur, Ballia, Mau, Ghazipur, Ambedkarnagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Sitapur, Bahraich, Kheri, Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit, Rampur, Bareilly, Badaun, Aligarh, Etah, Mathura, Gautam Budh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Moradabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor and Baghpat.

Gupta said the trough line (an extended region of low atmospheric pressure) passing from over UP was responsible for Wednesday night thunderstorm which wreaked havoc in some parts of west UP. The trough line has fizzled out, but there is still an upper air cyclonic circulation over central UP, he said. Further, easterly winds are feeding moisture in the atmosphere. The two factors — easterly winds and cyclonic circulation — may cause more thunderstorms, Gupta said.
