MUMBAI: The BEST undertaking plans to instal
recharging facility for private electric vehicles at Worli and
Backbay depots, sources said.
“With the entry of e-cars on road, there is a need to strengthen the infrastructure, especially in terms of battery recharging facility,” said a BEST official. Sources said as the two depots already have the facility for charging BEST’s six electric buses, this could be extended to private vehicles for a stipulated charge fixed by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Former BEST committee chairman Anil Kokil demanded e-vehicle recharging facility at the five octroi nakas that have been lying vacant since last year.
The BEST plans to procure 80 e-buses with subsidy from the Centre. Electric buses are 46%-60% cheaper in fuel costs compared to CNG and diesel buses and can run the entire day for 200km in a single charge. TNN
