Children’s traffic park coming up in Anna Square

Educational facility has been planned under Smart City project

Youngsters in the city would soon be able to learn rudimentary traffic rules and regulations in a calm and conducive atmosphere. The city will soon have a Lilliputian Children’s Traffic Park under the Smart City project coming up in Anna Square.

The Corporation is executing the children’s traffic park adjacent to the Anna Swimming Pool, for which foundation work has already been started. This traffic park would come as a replacement for the old traffic park which was open in the head office of the Police Commissioner on Poonamallee High Road. The old traffic park was dismantled to protect the facade of the Police Commissioner’s office building.

A senior official of the Corporation said the traffic park measuring 4,140 sq. m. located in Teynampet Zone was being constructed at a cost of ₹2.07 crore. The project was being constructed as per the Detailed Project Report submitted by Raghuraman Landscape Architect to help children gain knowledge of traffic regulations before they go on to become vehicle users.

Viewing gallery

The modern traffic park located opposite to the Perarignar Anna Park in Anna Square will have several facilities, including a viewing gallery, walking track, children’s play area, traffic sign boards for easier learning and a separate riding track. The entire park complex will have LED bulbs.

M. Radhakrishnan, founder of Thozhan, while welcoming the construction of the park, said the authorities should make it mandatory for all the schools to organise a trip to the traffic park.
