GUWAHATI:
Assam education minister
Siddhartha Bhattacharya on Wednesday urged candidates from the state who have cleared UPSC civil service exam to choose the Assam cadre. Bhattacharya, who got the education portfolio recently after a cabinet reshuffle, said for more efficient service to people, the state needs the service of IAS officers who are from Assam.
"After taking charge, I met some IAS officers from the state whom I found to be very cunning. With promotion, they have also learned red tape. They seek their fortune more than the fortune of the state," said
Bhattacharya during a felicitation ceremony of the UPSC civil service exam qualifiers from the state organized by the
North East Institute of Advanced Studies. The minister said basic knowledge about the state and commitment is important if the bureaucrats have to succeed in Assam.
