Indian national (21) was handed over to the BSF at Attari border where a formal medical was conducted before shifting him to civil hospital in Amritsar, the officials said.

Arjunwar, a resident of Madhya Pradesh's Barghat town, was repatriated to on humanitarian ground as he was suffering from thalassemia.

He was released from Karachi's juvenile jail early morning and was flown to to hand over to Indian authorities at Attari border.

Arjunwar had crossed into unintentionally five years back from the border on August 12, 2013, following an heated argument with his family.

He remained under treatment at the juvenile jail in due to the disorder before being transferred to district where all the Indian prisoners are kept since January 2015.

He was lodged in after being sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the court and shifted to on completing his jail term in 2014.

Despite repeated correspondence with the Indian embassy, the Pakistani authorities could not ascertain Jitendra's status as an Indian citizen.

However, his Indian citizenship was confirmed a few months back, after which the authorities decided to send him back.
