Mumbai: Just minutes after the special MCOCA court pronounced its verdict in the Jyotirmoy Dey murder case acquitting Jigna Vora, the former journalist broke into tears. Vora, who was accused of divulging Dey’s whereabouts to Chhota Rajan and instigating the gangster to kill him, was seen sobbing right from the morning session till evening.

Vora, who was present in the jam-packed courtroom wearing several strings of beads, burst into tears after hearing about her acquittal. She wept uncontrollably and continued sobbing till she was on the court premises.

“I am happy with the judgement as finally my Jigna has been proven innocent and the tag of ‘accused’ has been removed. This is a victory for us,” a relative of Vora said.

Special Judge Sameer Adkar, while acquitting Vora, said, “At the outset, in so far as Vora is concerned, the role attributed to her is that she instigated Chhota Rajan to commit the murder of and that it was she who gave a photograph of Dey and the registration number of his motorcycle to Rajan for the purpose of identification. However, there is no trustworthy evidence against her. In fact, the prosecution itself did not address any arguments against her with much force. Perhaps, even the prosecution was aware of the quality of the evidence against her.”

“In fact, even in the various extra judicial confessions made by Chhota Rajan, he has nowhere stated that he got Dey murdered because of the instigation by Vora or anybody else,” the special judge ruled. According to the CBI, Jigna was jealous of Dey as he was getting more news about crime world from one Farid Tanasha who was closely associated with Rajan. It was claimed that Jigna contacted Rajan and instigated him to commit Dey’s murder.
