Security tightened at T.N.-Karnataka border checkposts

Armed police personnel have been deployed at border check points between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in view of elections to the Karnataka Assembly.

Speaking to The Hindu, Superintendent of Police D. Mahesh Kumar said the checkposts were earlier manned by a single policeman or a home guard. But now, to prevent the movement of cash and other items, each of these checkposts have been strengthened. This includes deployment of two policemen to guard each checkpost. The checkposts are now manned by an officer rank and another head constable.

Usually,

they function without a weapon. But, now each checkpost is armed with a rifle, Mr. Mahesh Kumar said.

Similarly, CCTV cameras have been installed at all the checkposts.

There are six checkposts in Hosur that shares the maximum number of border points with Karnataka, one each at Zuzuvadi,TVS, Poonapalli, Kakkanoor, Nallur and Sampangiri; two checkposts in Krishnagiri subdivision, one each in Vepanapalli, and Neralagiri; two checkposts in Denkanikottai sub-division, one each in Gummalapuram and Natrampalayam.
