Thane: A leakage in the Mahanagar Gas Limited (
MGL) pipeline at
Majiwada disrupted the supply of cooking gas to thousands of families residing in Lodha Complex, Saket and parts of Kalwa on Thursday afternoon.
Officials said the leak took place due to the ongoing new drainage pipeline laying work near the Majiwada traffic police office.
Santosh Kadam, disaster officer at Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) said, “The incident took place at around 1.30 pm. The water department was working on laying the pipes in the area. It is likely that that while the contractors were working the gas line could have been dislocated at a point. We reached the spot with a fire engine and a rescue vehicle. The MGL officials claimed that supply would be restored maximum by 9 pm on Monday.”
The connection was immediately cut off to avoid the occurrence of any blaze, and officials from the fire brigade, RDMC and MGL started working on the repairs.
An official from MGL said, “As a precautionary measure we immediately cut off the gas supply to the areas to avoid any fire disasters. Our department immediately sent out employees to rectify the rupture in the line. The gas supply to pockets of Kalwa, Saket as well as Lodha complex will be restored as soon as possible.”
Thanks to quick action and a timely response, the supply was restored in by 3.45 pm about 3 hours after the connection was shut off.
Meanwhile, the residents who were unaware of the sudden shut-down were forced to make alternative food arrangements.
