Over three lakh jobs for skilled workers in pipeline: Yogi

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said his government planned to create over three lakh jobs in UP for skilled workers by imparting the required training till 2021.

He was inaugurating the Uttar Pradesh Skill Competition at Indira Gandhi Pratisthan in Lucknow. The two-day competition is being held to select participants who will be sent to the national level contest later this year.

“UP is one of the first states to start a skill development mission. We want to continue the momentum of work done by the mission to develop a pool of skilled workers in coming years,” he said, addressing over 400 students and industrial representatives.

As the CM spoke, 108 participants from across the state, competed in an array of skilled work, ranging from welding to restaurant services. According to the organisers, three participants each will be selected over two days in 10 skilled jobs.

“The selected 30 candidates will then be sent for the India Skill Competition and eventually to the World Skill Competition to be held Russia next year,” said Pranjal Yadav, director, UP Skill Development Mission (UPSDM).

Governor Ram Naik, the chief minister and other dignitaries visited the stalls across the venue.

Earlier, Jayant Krishna, executive director of National Skill Development Corporation(NSDC), said, “Uttar Pradesh is ahead among 20 states participating in the skill competition across the country.”

Over 1.5 crore young people were trained last year and 15 lakh or 10% of them were from UP, he said. “We want this percentage to reach 16 % this year,” Krishna added.
