After a morning of yard work and transplanting, Flagler Palm Coast News-Tribune editor Aaron London and his wife, Kim, decided to treat themselves to a festive lunch. With a wide variety of choices to pick from, they decided to stop by one of their favorite places for breakfast, Peach Valley Cafe in Port Orange, and take a closer look at the lunch menu.

What is the place like?

The restaurant is light and airy and has a nice welcoming feel. The waiting area in front is spacious with plenty of seating, which is a good thing because on this particular Sunday there were a lot of hungry people already in line for lunch. But with the prospect of fresh coffee to sip while waiting, it wasn't a bad experience at all.

What's on the menu?

Peach Valley Cafe serves breakfast and lunch and there isn't much you could want that isn't on the menu. From a side variety of omelets including a western omelet, Greek omelet and a health start omelet. For those looking for lighter fare for breakfast, the menu includes yogurt, fresh fruit, muffins and homemade granola. On the lunch side, Peach Valley Cafe offers a nice selection of wraps, salads, sandwiches and burgers.

What did you get?

Kim opted for the turkey reuben, which comes with thinly sliced turkey, melted Swiss cheese, layered with sauerkraut and thousand island dressing on griddled rye bread. The combination of the turkey and sauerkraut, complemented by the dressing and cheese, made for a satisfying lunch. The side of sweet potato fries topped off the meal.

Aaron went for the sequoia burger, a half-pound ground sirloin burger, topped with carmelized red onions, sauteed mushrooms, hardwood smoked bacon and melted provolone cheese. The burger was fresh and tasty and the onions and mushrooms covered the entire piece of meat and mixed together for an explosion of flavor. The crisp fries made for a nice side dish.

Did you get anything else?

Any stop at Peach Valley Cafe is not complete without an order of the apple fritters. The Granny Smith apple slices are mixed in homemade batter, fried and then tossed with a cinnamon/sugar blend. And don't forget the strawberry yogurt for dippling.

What did all this cost?

The bill came to $26.80, not including tip.
