John Bercow 'should consider position' amid bullying claims

John Bercow is being urged to "consider his position" after allegations of "bullying” have raised questions about whether the Speaker should step down.

Andrew Bridgen, the Tory MP, said: “At a time when we are looking for culture change in the House of Commons with regard to bullying and harassment, I think that’s very difficult if the titular head of that organisation is mired in these allegations.”

A former member of Mr Bercow's staff who made allegations of “bullying” by the Speaker of the House of Commons was given an £86,250 pay-off to keep his complaints quiet, it emerged last night.
