Class 11 student stabbed to death in Kathua, three held

JAMMU/KATHUA: A class XI student of a government college was stabbed to death in full public view in J&K’s Kathua district on Monday.
Police said Liyaqat Ali was trying to pacify two warring groups when he was stabbed by three men. Ali was taken to a government medical college where he succumbed to his injuries. Police said they have arrested three men in the case.

According to a senior police officer, Ali, a resident of Dher village in Kathua district’s Billawar area, was trying to broker peace between one Abid Hussain and accused Abhishek Verma when he was stabbed.

“There was a personal rivalry between Abid Hussain and accused Abhishek Sharma which turned into a fight. Sharma along with his accomplice Honey Khajuria and Pankaj Sharma attacked Abid Hussain. Ali tried to save Abid but got stabbed during the scuffle,” the officer said.

On a complaint lodged by one Ali’s sister Nishant Kouser, police registered a case of murder and arrested Abhishek and Honey near Sukrala within hours of the attack and seized the car which the car had been used in the crime. Pankaj was arrested on Wednesday.
