New Cars in US Now Required to Have Backup Cameras

All new cars sold in the U.S. are now  required to have  backup cameras.

Advocates hope the cameras will help prevent some of the over 200 deaths from backover crashes that occur annually.

The U.S.

Department of Transportation announced the requirement back in 2014 and gave automakers a few years to prepare.

According to a 2016 report by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, rearview cameras help reduce backup crashes  by 16 percent .
