During the World Travel Market Africa 2018, which took place in Cape Town in April, it was observed that women play a significant role in the tourism industry.
One of the speakers at the event was the founder of Women in Tourism, Alessandra Alonso.
Speaking to Kieno Kammies, Alonso said travel and tourism played a phenomenal role as a contributor to the economy internationally with 10 to 11 per cent global employment.
But actually, in all respects, women in tourism and travel are inherently a very attractive factor to women, said Alessandra Alonso.
Women internationally make up anything between 50 and 70 per cent of the employees in the travel and tourism industry, she added.
