First online EAMCET online faces power cuts

The first ever online Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) of Telangana kicked off on a smooth note without any technical glitches. The exam was, however, marred by power disruptions at several places owing to the damage done by unscheduled rains and gales.

However, strong backup plan including UPS and generators at all test centres ensured that students did not face much problem. Several centres in Khammam district faced problems due to power cuts, an official explained. “But for the strong backup facility by the exam conductors, things would have gone haywire, given the sensitivity attached to the EAMCET,” he said.

The first test session began at 10 a.m. There were no reports of students being turned away for reaching the centre after the scheduled time of 10 a.m. The authorities made it clear that no student would be allowed to enter the hall even if they come one minute late. The second session will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Students were allowed into the exam centre two hours before the scheduled time so that they could familiarise themselves with the Computer Based Test (CBT) being held for the first time. Officials said 73,106 candidates applied for the agriculture and medical stream while 1,47,958 are testing their luck in the engineering stream.
