Mumbai: Concerned about the woes of home-buyers of those projects which are not covered under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, MahaRera chief Gautam Chatterjee has called for creating a unified authority to deal with all consumer grievances. The idea is to have one unified authority which is a quasi judicial body to deal with all consumer grievances in the realty sector, he said.

“The objective of the Rera is to bring in transparency and ensure compliance, which has been achieved to a greater extent in the last one year itself. But there are many projects which do not come under the purview of the Act but have many aggrieved consumers and those need to be addressed,” Chatterjee told PTI here.

He said the almost 50-year-old Maharashtra Ownership Flat Act (Mofa) has many provisions similar to that of the Rera but there are certain projects which are exempted even under this. “Both the Rera and Mofa are more or less similar. However, there are certain projects which are exempted under the Rera. But there are buyers in those projects who are facing many problems.
