VARANASI: A 15-year-old dalit girl was allegedly raped by a local youth at a village in
Shahganj police station area of
Jaunpur district on Monday evening. Based on a complaint filed by the girl's parents, police lodged an FIR under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC, 3/4 POCSO Act, and 3(2)(v) of SC/ST Act on Wednesday. The police have detained the accused for interrogation.
On Monday evening the girl was going to her mother, who had gone to work at a nearby field, when the youth
Pravin Soni alias Panchu forcibly took her to a nearby canal and allegedly raped her. He also threatened her of dire consequences if she would open her mouth.
On returning home, the girl narrated the ordeal to her mother. The family reported the matter to police on Wednesday. In a quick response, the police went to the village after registering the case.

Kripashankar Maurya told TOI over phone that the accused has been detained for interrogation. The girl was sent to the district hospital for medical examination.
