Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath admitted that there is shortage of doctors that is affecting imparting quality health care facilities and sought help from the private and voluntary organizations like IMA to help government in its endeavor to impart quality service to people.

Addressing a gathering of doctors in Gorakhpur on Tuesday morning he said that when his government came to power there was acute shortage of doctors. “This government has initiated some steps which resulted in easing the crisis a little bit but this is not enough,” Yogi said while addressing the function organized by the Gorakhpur chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA).

Chief Minister appealed to the private doctors and those associated with IMA to help state government in giving quality medical services to the people.

“When this government came to power there was shortage of over 7500 doctors in the state-run hospitals. We made appointment of around 1000 doctors that includes giving appointment to retired doctors who are specialists. Besides, Ayush doctors were set to PHCs so that quality treatment could be made available in the villages,” Yogi said.

He said still there is shortage of 4500 doctors. “We have also initiated steps to appoint teachers in ad hoc basis for that the process of interview has begun but this might take some time. I appeal to private doctors to help government in imparting quality health care to the people,” he said.

Against the proposed posts of 18382 doctors around 7348 posts are lying vacant. The previous Samajwadi Party Government had initiated a process to appoint doctors but it failed. The Akhilesh Government also invited retired doctors for fresh appointment but only 297 doctors showed their willingness.
