Cloudwick Technologies, an IT company in California owned by Indian-American Mani Chhabra, was asked to pay $1,73,044 in wages to 12 of its foreign employees, most of them from India, who were paid salaries well below the levels required under the H-1B programme.

Investigations carried out by the U.S. Department of Labour revealed that some of the employees, who were promised salaries of up to $8,300 per month, instead received as little as $800.

The company has also signed an enhanced compliance agreement requiring it to hire an independent monitor to help ensure future compliance, a media release said.
