Thane Municipal Corporation gives 2-week extension to private pathology laboratories to register

THANE: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has given privately-run pathology laboratories and diagnostic centres a two-week extension to complete the registration process, sharing details about the qualification of their staffers involved in conducting medical tests.
The civic body has undertaken a comprehensive registration of all pathology laboratories in Thane city to get a clear picture on the medical care centres and to weed out illegal units that are operating without qualified staff.

“The registration of these pathology laboratories was not made mandatory till date, as such there is no accurate data on their numbers or those professionals running them. Henceforth, each of these units will have to register with the TMC with qualifications of the practicing pathologists and the staffers dealing with patients,” said Dr Ram Kendre, medical health officer, Thane civic body.

The pathologists will have to produce their certificates and also mention the time as to when they will be available in the laboratories. They will even have to provide the registered lease deed agreement and no-objection certificate from the fire department during the registration.

“This move will ensure that there are no illegal pathology laboratories running in the city. Also, the laboratories which do not register themselves will be charged a fine of Rs 50 for each day till they register and if we come across any unauthorised ones, then they will be sealed,” added Dr Kendre.
