Pushing for the construction of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Tuesday launched a ‘Jail Bharo Andalon’ from Bhiwani.

The INLD-BSP, which had recently announced their alliance for 2019 parliamentary and assembly polls in Haryana, accused the ruling BJP of deliberately delaying the construction of SYL canal even after the order of Supreme Court in 2016.

Leader of opposition in Haryana Assembly Abhay Singh Chautala, BSP state president Prakash Bharti, INLD state president Ashok Arora, INLD MP Dushyant Chautala, INLD MLAs and other party leaders and workers courted arrest in Bhiwani during the agitation on the issue of SYL canal.

Before his arrest, Abhay Chautala while addressing the gathering said that the INLD-BSP alliance will continue their agitation till the construction of SYL canal.

He also recalled that the Centre, which has been directed by the Supreme Court (SC) to complete the construction of the SYL canal, has been sitting over the directive for the past 18 months.

The INLD-BSP leaders will now hold a meeting on Wednesday in Kurukshetra to chalk out a strategy to launch an agitation against the ruling BJP.

The meet will focus on  the issues of deteriorating law and order situation and various scams, among other issues.
