Notice to Gutha Sukhender Reddy

Hearing after vacation

Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday passed an order to serve notice to Congress Member of Parliament from Nalgonda Gutha Sukhender Reddy on his appointment as Telangana Rashtra Rythu Samanvaya Samithi (TRRSS) chairman.

The direction was given by a Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi after hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition challenging his appointment as Samithi chairman.

The PIL was filed by Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha State president G. Madhusudhan Reddy who contended that Samithi chairman post was an office of profit and Mr. Sukhender Reddy should not hold it by virtue of being a Member of Parliament.

The Bench had asked the petitioner’s counsel B. Rachna Reddy to amend the prayer from seeking his removal as Samithi chairman to his disqualification as MP. Accordingly, the counsel filed the amended prayer which was accepted by the Bench on Tuesday.

The counsel’s request to issue personal notice to Mr. Reddy was also accepted. The matter would be heard after summer vacation of the court.
