The special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court will pronounce its verdict today in journalist Jyotirmoy Dey murder case.
Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Adkar had, on the 3rd of last month, fixed today as the date for the verdict. Dey was shot dead in Powai on 11th June, 2011, allegedly at the behest of gangster Chhota Rajan.
The prosecution has examined 155 witnesses in the case, of which around 10 are reported to have turned hostile. Of the 14 accused in the case, Vinod Asrani has died and two are absconding. The 11 accused tried for the murder include Chhota Rajan and journalist Jigna Vora.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch had filed its chargesheet in the case on 3rd December, 2011. On 5th August, 2016, CBI had filed a supplementary chargesheet, which claimed Rajan had told a journalist that he suspected Dey was working for the D-gang, run by global terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.
