CM initiates month-long water conservation campaign

On the 58th Foundation Day of Gujarat, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani initiated a month long Statewide water conservation campaign – ‘Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan - 2018’ from Kosamdi village of Ankleshwar Taluka by starting a work for deepening a lake.

Speaking on the occasion CM Rupani said that water is the base of development and if water wouldn’t be available there would be no chance of development and progress. He stressed on conserving every drop of rain water believing it as gift of god.

“Every citizen of Gujarat requires contributing in the campaign by some or other way. After successful water conservation people of Gujarat will start massive tree plantation drive. There is a great need to clean rivers of Gujarat to enhance their water storage capacities,” said the Chief Minister.

As a part of the campaign the members of council of ministers, union ministers, chairmen of state owned Boards and Corporations, Members of Parliaments from Gujarat and other dignitaries also launched the water conservation related programmes in all 33 districts of the state.

Instead of state capital Gandhinagar, state level functions of Gujarat Governments are being organiSed on Independence Day, Republic Day and Gujarat Day (May 1) at different district headquarters. This tradition was started by former Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2005 by organising Gujarat Day at Surat.

Since then these functions are regularly organized at different district headquarters. This year Gujarat Day celebrated in Bharuch situated on the bank of River Narmada.

In another event on the day Rupani performed the ground breaking ceremony of Rs.40-crore Kabirwad Vikas Project at Shukla Teerth on the banks of Narmada River in Bharuch district. He joined 732 volunteers and villagers to cleanse 2km stretch of the riverbank as part of the development of Char Ghats including pilgrimage centres of Shukla Teerth, Kabirwad, Mangaleshwar and Angareshwar Ghats.

 Speaking on the occasion, he said the project is cleansing Narmada River, known as the Lifeline of Gujarat, and planting trees to check erosion of the banks for fast development of the four pilgrimage centres.

Rupani who attended series of functions at Bharuch said that two decades ago, it was not possible to talk about industrial development in any city of the State and now, Gujarat is known as the ‘Global Gateway of India’ worldwide. Summits like the Vibrant Gujarat with its 23 (approx.) business friendly policies have made Gujarat the best destination for investment he said adding that the state is also known as the manufacturing and automobiles hub.

Earlier on the day along with Gujarat Governor OP Kohli, Rupani attended the 2km long Police Parade and Gaurav Yatra as part of Gujarat’s Foundation Day series of state-level functions held at Bharuch.

A large number of people cheered 1,200 police officers and employees belonging to 24 platoons marched past the streets of the town, to the tune of patriotic songs played by police band.
