As highlighted by the Ministry of Tourism, by the end of the month, all operations of the office will be stopped related to promoting India as a destination for Canadians, as the office has finished its duty related to advertising in travel supplements of all the popular dailies, on cabs and on public transit for many years.
By the end of April, the office was completely stacked with packing boxes and artefacts that were exhibited in Toronto readied to be shipped.
The unexpected declaration came as a shock to those related to the travel and hospitality business, few of them used to coordinate with the tourism office. As described by one person that he was “disappointed” that this bridge was being terminated, even though he would skip talking about the record ever since he continues to have dealings in both countries. Since 1960, India Tourism always had a presence in Canada but with this way out, that will come to an end.
Travel between India and Canada has increased considerably in recent times. In 2011, the number of Canadian travelers visiting India was almost 259,017 and the provisional figures in last year increased to 338,925. Likewise, Indians departing for Canada grew from 139,213 to 190,565 during the same period.
