Ujjain: Death of a woman during caesarean and subsequent death of her newborn, led to ruckus at Government Charak Hospital on Monday. Patient’s kin accused doctors of medical negligence. According to reports, upon admission of 24-year-old Ranu, wife of Mohanlal Joshi of Gonsa the doctors advised her family that she need to be operates as her condition has started worsening.
Doctors performed the operation of the woman on family’s consent. However after the operation her condition became critical and she died after giving birth to a girl child. Notably in a recent incident an enquiry was ordered by hospital administration in a similar case where 22-year-old Naina died because of poor obstetric care. The investigation is still on the table of enquiry officer.
According to reports it was Ranu’s misfortune that the doctor opened up her abdomen just for the sake of learning. Sources disclosed that the doctor-in-question is neither an expert nor authorised for handling such cases.
Government has placed 7 consultants in Civil Hospital for abdominal delivery through surgical intervention. They include Dr Sandhya Pancholi (HOD), Dr Sangita Palsaniya, (2nd HOD and 3 other consultant namely Dr Anita Joshi, Dr Sunita Sharma, Dr Munshi Khan, Dr Diwakar and Dr Yogendra Vyas. Questions are now being rasied as to why and who allowed a simple medical officer to perform a surgery.
Why an inexperienced doctor was in the operation theatre, who was actually on call on duty, if there was no consultant available why surgical specialists were not called, which is a norm and tradition in hospital, why a pediatrician was not in the operation theatre at the time of surgical procedure? are the questin which are keeping the Gynecologists in the city perplexed.
According to sources, patient Ranu’s surgery was made at about 10.45 pm on Monday. Not only she but her new born girl child also died because of mishandling of learning doctor who got injuries of surgical knife. Despite this, the girl child was referred to the RD Gardi Medical College on the same night which reportedly received her as dead. Despite repeated efforts of Free Press, none of the Charak Hospital authorities were available for comment.
