A RARE coin has sold on eBay yesterday for a whopping £503. The Isle of Man 2003 Christmas 50p coin depicting characters from The Snowman. The coins were crated by the Pobjoy Mint.

The 2003 Isle of Man Christmas 50p along with its card is selling for a whopping sum online.
One of the pieces sold for a whopping £503 on eBay yesterday by seller Alfiemoon*2011, based in Wrexham.
The piece is recognised by its depiction of the well-loved characters The Snowman and James dancing in the snow.
The Snowman is a series of animated TV programmes based off a children’s book.

The coin was created by Pobjoy Mint and designed with Raymond Briggs, the creator of The Snowman.
The Pobjoy Mint is another coin maker in the UK, much like Royal Mint.
It was founded in 1965 and has created many highly collectible and valuable coins.
Coin selling website Coin Trust sell the piece for £300.
They say of the piece: “Featuring The snowman and James. 50p's are now a very sort after area of collecting.

“These 50p from the Pobjoy mint first started to be issued in 1980 and it is only now with the increase in commemorative 50p's from the Royal Mint that these coins have started to show their colours in the area of being a serious collector's coin.
“This 50p is regarded as scarce. It has a much lower issue number than the Kew gardens and Single Market 50p's from the Royal Mint.”
It is not known what the issue number of this festive coin really is, however, it is certainly a hit with collectors.
A bidding war broke out over the coin, with 20 bids made on the piece by nine seperate bidders.
Another rare 50p coin has sold online for £500 recently.
