Coopratives meet at IIM-K to conclude today

Companies should adopt new technologies to continue delivering values to their customers, Saji Gopinath, Chief Executive Officer, Kerala Startup Mission, has said.

He was at the Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode on Monday to speak at Coopathon 2018, organised as part of a conference on ‘Co-operatives in the Changing World of Work’.

Ninety students from across India enrolled in Coopathon 2018 to promote the involvement of youth in cooperatives. The students have been brainstorming how cooperatives can contribute to poverty alleviation, protecting the environment and other key areas of concern.

Reema Nanavati, social activist, said that the Global Commission on Future of Work of the International Labour Organisation was expected to bring out an action oriented report on the future of work.

Mridul Eapen, Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram, said the world of work was changing posing significant implications, especially for women.

Rangan Dutta, former IAS official, who spoke on the ‘Blueprint to Maximise Employment Generation’, said the new employment policy blueprint would be shaped by economic, social and labour policy interventions. It was expected to incentivise employers to create more jobs, introduce economic reforms appealing to companies, along with supporting the medium and small-scale industries.

The conference will conclude on Tuesday.
