Aviation training centre with flight simulators coming to Brisbane
Ansett Australia is still operating in the aviation industry following its 2001 collapse and will soon bring flight simulators to Brisbane.
Ansett Aviation Training submitted a development application to Brisbane City Council on February 28, proposing a flight simulator training facility for commercial airline pilots at Pinkenba.
It was proposed the facility, which would be across the road from the airport on Brownlee Street, would operate 24/7 and be used by domestic and international commercial pilots.
There would be three simulators in the facility, two which would operate on a hydraulic system and one electric simulator.
The exclusive use of 14 car parks on the site was requested, with the assessment report stating only Ansett Aviation Training staff would use the private vehicles as flight trainers and pilots would carpool.
Ansett Aviation Training was contacted for comment.
A council officer said while the flight simulators would not be initially open to the public the provider had indicated that could be possible in the future.
Land use suitability, flood immunity, hazardous goods and the hours of operation where the four key assessment matters considered by the council.
The development application was open for public feedback between March 14 and April 5 and no submissions were received.
At Tuesday’s City Planning Committee the council discussed the proposal and supported it unanimously.
Chairman Julian Simmonds said it was great to see an industry like aviation training attracted to Brisbane.
