All set for ‘Selfie with Nature’ summer camp

The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (RIVER) in association with the Department of Tourism, Government of Puducherry, will be organising “Selfie with Nature”, a summer camp for schoolchildren on its sprawling campus in Kurumbapet near here from May 3 to 18.

According to S. Ramkumar, Dean, RIVER, the objective of the summer camp for schoolchildren from Classes VII to X is to educate the children through various activities and to give them a holistic approach to nature and environmental issues. The camps will be held in separate batches on May 3 and 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17 and 18. Students can choose the batches based on their convenience.The camps will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs ₹950 a student.

Activity-based schedule

On the first day of the camp, the students would be exposed to eco walk, and various environmental issues. The students will be involved in various activities in RIVER and taken on a visit to understanding animal rearing activities such as milking of cows and organic agriculture.

During the course of the camp, the children will visit the Puducherry Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (PONLAIT) to see and experience products in the make from milk in Kurumbapet. A visit to Krishi Vigyan Kendra is planned for.
