‘Withdraw reservation roster notification’

UGC notification has put a halt on process of permanent appointments: DUTA

The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Monday held a national convention demanding withdrawal of a notification issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) that directed universities to implement department-wise reservation roster instead of treating colleges and universities as a unit.

“In DU, the UGC notification has put a complete halt on the process of permanent appointments that had begun at the behest of the High Court. With 50% DU faculty waiting to be regularised in permanent jobs, the UGC notification directly contravenes all advertised vacancies and endangers the interview schedule,” said DUTA president Rajib Ray.

Demanding immediate withdrawal of the notification, the DUTA said the government should issue a clear directive to all universities and colleges to proceed with routine permanent appointments as per the 2006 UGC guidelines.

Reserved posts

“The recommendation of having a department-wise roster will ensure that all academic departments that have a small numerical strength will end up not having adequate reserved posts. As a result, the constitutionally-mandated reservation percentages will never be met in the departments and institutions which they are a part of,” Mr. Ray added.

Several leaders, including BJP MP Udit Raj, AAP leader Ashutosh and activist Kavita Krishnan, were present at the convention.
