Bhopal: AIIMS non-medical staff on strike, want regularisation

Bhopal: Non medical staffs of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) will go on a strike to demand their regularization on Tuesday. Working system is likely to be paralysed as non medical staff including stenos, typists, computer operators, accountant and other staff will join the token strike against administration indifferent attitude.

Resentment was brewing among the 600 contractual workers after AIIMS administration have recently released a recruitment notification. Contractual employees are now demanding that they must be given preference in the recruitment. Vijay Baldev, employees union general secretary, said, “AIIMS administration has released advertisement for an appointment of 171 non-medical staff. We are working here for the last six years. Our demand is that we should be given in the recruitment process. But administration is about to bypass us and appoint others.”

“AIIMS had tried this earlier too but the entire recruitment drive was put under the carpet because of our protest. Through this recruitment drive AIIMS is trying to fool us with its tactics,” he said, adding, “However, we have decided to protest against it in first phase of recruitment itself.

Dr Sant Guru, former president of students union, will lead a foot-march from Bhopal to Delhi on the issue of appointment of the director and improvement of infrastructure on May 3. The day is observed as “freedom of media” and so the foot-march has been named “freedom of speech”. The students have been anguished as whenever, students have tried to raise the issues plaguing the institute, they have been gagged by self proclaimed administrators who have emerged in the absence of actual director, he added.
