Yadadri launches action plan to beat the heat

With consistent 40-plus degrees Celsius temperature being recorded across Nalgonda and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri regions for the past two weeks, the district administration has issued a summer action plan including do’s and dont’s and immediate assistance for workers out in the sun.

District Collector Anita Ramchandran on Tuesday reviewing the situation with officials said most of the mandals were in ‘Watch’ category, i.e., with temperature above 40 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius was registered in Pochampalle, and eight other mandals were close to 43. And only two mandals, Mothkur and Rajapet showed least 39.7 degrees temperature on Tuesday.

The district administration has arranged medical and first aid kits specific to the need, and about 4 lakh Oral Rehydration Salt packets were made available at all primary health centres.

Ms. Ramachandran while instructing officials to see that outdoor workers are provided with basic amenities against harsh sun, said Employment Guarantee Scheme workers should not be allotted to work between 12 noon and 4 p.m.

She also instructed officials to report incidents of heatstroke and severe conditions as per laid down procedure at all mandal-level offices.

Meanwhile, in the evening, most places in the district and surrounding mandals witnessed light showers for a brief time, but gusty winds continued for a longer time disrupting electricity in the towns. No thunderstorms were noticed.
