Jagan alone is committed to State’s cause, say YSRCP leaders

YSR Congress Party general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V. Vijaya Sai Reddy has said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is afraid of the Union Government as it might order a CBI inquiry.

Addressing the ‘Vanchana Deeksha’ of the party here on Monday, Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy alleged that the Chief Minister had indulged in corruption to the tune of ₹3 lakh crore and stashed the lion’s share of it abroad. He acquired hotel and properties in Singapore, the MP alleged.

The Chief Minister, who sought protection from people instead of protecting them, had no right to continue in the post, he said. He was criticising the Centre on one hand and was making conciliatory efforts on the other, he said.

The YSRCP’s 12-hour fast coincided with the Dharma Porata Deeksha of the CM and was organised to highlight the ‘betrayal’ of the BJP and the TDP with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr. Naidu making a number of promises, including Special Category Status, on April 30 and May 1 2014, in pre-election meetings. Party leaders, including MPs, MLAs, MLCs and former Ministers, attended wearing black.

‘Principled fight’

Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy said while party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had been agitating for SCS right from the beginning, Mr. Naidu failed to press for UPA Cabinet resolution of March 2, 2014. He alleged that the CM welcomed Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s announcement of special package for his selfish ends.

He said YSRCP would fight for adequate support for the backward North Andhra region, including the railway zone. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, who presided over the ‘deeksha,’ recalled that though the Assembly passed a resolution on SCS at the instance of Mr. Jagan, it was not sent to the Centre.

MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy said with both Mr. Modi and Mr. Naidu going back on their promises, only Mr. Jagan was capable of safeguarding the interests of A.P. MLA R.K. Roja said it was time to teach a lesson to both the TDP and the BJP.

Party leader N. Lakshmi Parvati thanked Mr. Jagan for announcing to name Krishna district after NTR if voted to power.
