16 K’mal evicted families live under sky

The district administration evicted 16 families from their dwelling homes at Gadapur under Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district to construct road for RI office recently.

They were asked by the administration to leave home so that land can be acquired for the road for transporting construction materials.

The Tehsildar issued the notice to vacate the place within a month. Though a month’s time was given and the notice was given on April 16, but the date mentioned for eviction was mentioned was April 25. This shows the drive was taken hurriedly. The administration did not pay heed to their appeal nor made any alternative plan to rehabilitate them. Consequently, the evacuees are now living under the sky with their children and old members of house. Meanwhile, they demanded immediate rehabilitation from the administration.
