The New York Times on Monday night published a list of questions that special counsel Robert Mueller wants to ask President Donald Trump.
Almost 50 questions were recently submitted to Trump’s lawyers, and later obtained by the Times.
Many of the questions relate to Trump’s potential obstruction of the investigation into Russian election-meddling, and whether Trump planned to fire Mueller. They also appear to seek Trump’s motivations regarding certain tweets and to clarify how close his working relationships were with certain advisers and family members.
The list also includes questions about former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s contacts with Russians before Trump’s inauguration and his subsequent firing; the decision to fire former FBI Director James Comey; the recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions; and possible campaign coordination with Russia.
The Times listed dozens of questions, noting they were paraphrased and some were condensed. Here is a sampling:
• What did you know about phone calls that Mr. Flynn made with the Russian ambassador, Sergey I. Kislyak, in late December 2016?
• What did you mean when you told Russian diplomats on May 10, 2017, that firing Mr. Comey had taken the pressure off?
• What discussions did you have regarding terminating the special counsel, and what did you do when that consideration was reported in January 2018?
• During the campaign, what did you know about Russian hacking, use of social media or other acts aimed at the campaign?
• What did you know about communication between Roger Stone, his associates, Julian Assange or WikiLeaks?
Trump’s lawyers are reportedly still weighing whether or not to allow the president to submit to an interview by Mueller’s investigators, whether in person or in the form of written questions.
