March to Santhemarahalli stopped

Members of Karnataka for Employment (KFE), who were planning an overnight march from Mysuru to Santhemarahalli, were detained when they set out.

They had planned the march as part of the Statewide ‘Vote for Jobs’ campaign, aimed at calling attention to Mr. Modi’s promise of creating one crore jobs.

“The NDA government, headed by the BJP, has passed an amendment to the Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act (ESOA), 1946. This amendment by the Modi regime has erased all possibilities of job security in future,” said coordinator of the campaign, Rajashekhar Akki.

Santhemarahalli hogged the limelight in the 2004 polls, when prominent leader of Chamarajanagar district, A.R. Krishnamurthy, lost the Assembly elections by a single vote. Mr. Krishnamurthy, son of Dalit leader B. Rachaiah, was with the JD(S) in 2004. After his loss, he joined the BJP. He is now with Congress.
