Shivamogga stands fifth

With an overall pass percentage of 75.77, the district stands fifth in the State in the II PU result of 2017-18 that was announced on Monday.

There has been a marked improvement in the pass percentage as well as in the ranking as in the previous year, the district was sixth with a percentage of 68.

Rhuthwik S. of Sri Aurobindo PU College, Javalli, scored 591 out of 600. His father, Sriranga, is a cable operator while his mother, Savithri, is a housewife. Rhuthwik scored 100 each in Physics and Mathematics and 99 each in Biology and Chemistry. Speaking to The Hindu, he said he was interested in basic sciences and would take up research in Physics. He said lucrative career options are available for students who pursue basic sciences.

Vishwas Jois, another student of the same college, scored 590. He scored 100 each in Mathematics and Chemistry, 99 in Physics and 98 in Statistics. His father, Suresh V.P., works for a rural bank while his mother, Vijayashree, is a housewife. Vishwas said he would pursue an engineering course in the Electronics and Communications stream. He said that with persistent effort and a planned approach, it was possible to secure good marks.
